converting kilos to litres?

Is it possible to convert 22 kilos in to litres.

Also, is it possible to measure a suitcase and find out what its capacity is in litres, kilos and pounds.

Thank you.

i always thought that 1 litre of water weighs about 1 kilo...
To the suitcase: go to the manufacturers website. they always tell you the capacity in their info.

Thanks for your reply, but I was hoping to be able to work out the information myself.

You can calculate the volume easily enough I think.

Volume = Length * Width * Height

Measure the dimensions of the inside of the suitcase, all in the same units.

For example, if the suitcase is 24 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches:
24 inches * 12 inches * 6 inches = 1728 cubic inches

It doesn't matter what unit you use, as long as the units are the same. If you measured in centimeters and it was 60 centimeters by 30 centimeters by 15 centimeters:
60 cm * 30 cm * 15 cm = 27000 cubic centimeters

Then you can use the volume conversion page to convert the cubic inches or cubic centimeters into liters.

Now, the weight of the suitcase would be a different matter.

A volume to weight conversion depends on the substance.  If you have the suitcase filled with all different things all weighing different weights, it would not be easy to create a conversion factor for that.

But if it is filled with just one thing, such as water, then I can help with that, just need to know what the substance is so I can find out the specific gravity.

Hi Robert,

I see what you mean about the substance in the case.

Mark.
