Thousand Board Feet to Short Tons

Is anyone familiar with converting MBF (Thousand Board Feet) to Short Tons? MBF is used in the shipment of finished lumber, customers requesting a Short Ton rate.

You can convert board feet to volume by multiplying it by the width and thickness of the board.

Then if you know the density of the type of wood, you can convert the volume to weight.

Though you'll need to know the density, often called specific gravity.  Either that or a sample weight.
