can someone please tell me how to convert lbs/sq feet to newtons / m2.

Those are units of pressure, you can find them on the Pressure conversion page here:

1 pound/square foot = 47.8802589 newton/square meter

You would use the above number as the conversion factor.
pounds/square foot * 47.8802589 = newton/square meter
That is the same method the converters use.
