convert cubic yards to tonnage

I am trying to measure cubic yards of trash into tonnage.  I am stuck.  what formula should I use.  For example, I have 27,638.5 cubic yards of trash.

You would need to know the density of trash. There must be someplace that has an average density for trash listed online. At most it would be an estimate, nothing definite.

The site I get density data from is:
http://www.reade.com/Particle_Briefings/spec_gra2.html

But nothing there for trash.
