???I'm a english teacher in Italy and I'm trying to teach a kitchen maker how to read a  foot measuring tape with 1/16 ths and 1/8 ths and so on .the measurements must be exact and the people are sendind him american standard measurments.can anybody help.???thanks joey

Though in your case I think the biggest problem is just converting fractions to decimal.  Is that right?

Say you have a number such as 2 1/16 inches.  First convert 1/16 to a decimal using your calculator, then add 2.
1/16 = 0.0625
2 + 0.0625 = 2.0625 inches

Then convert that to centimeters.

2.0625 inch = 5.23875 centimeter

Now if you have the downloadable OC Conversion Pro software, you can enter fractions, though you need to enter them a certain way. You need to use the + sign in place of spaces.  For example, you would enter the number like:

2+1/16

OC Conversion Pro can convert the fractions automatically.

2+1/16 inch = 5.23875 centimeter
